GORDIE'S BRIDGE
We had a summer home in Canada
A beachfront cottage in Kingsville
A quaint town on Lake Erie
To get to the cottage,
We had two choices
The tunnel or the bridge
The Ambassador Bridge
Either way you had to pay
And more fun
I mile long and 75 feet under the river
The Detroit–Windsor Tunnel
Is the second busiest crossing
Between the US and Canada
The Ambassador Bridge the first
The Ambassador Bridge originally was a railroad bridge
Later open to cars
It is hard to get to, and
Ends on Windsor’s city streets
Now we have a third option
The Gordie Howe International Bridge
Connecting Highway to Highway
And named after the most famous
Detroit Redwing hockey player
Gorgie
The G H I B was fought for years
By the owner of the Ambassador
Who refused to make improvements
To the older bridge
Recently DJT became involved
Claiming the Feds should get a share
Of this public bridge paid for by Canada
And managed by Ontario and Michigan
Trump claimed his blocking the opening of
Gordie’s Bridge was all about
His trade dispute with Canada
He didn’t mention the million dollar donation
He received from the owner of the Ambassador Bridge
I'm eager to cross over on the Gordie, but
The tunnel is still my first choice.
Go Redwings
