My World View
I struggle to make sense of the world I find myself living
in.
As a boy I wore my dad’s “I like Ike” button.
At ten I wore a “Kennedy” button.
With age, I grew to appreciate the value of:
Small Government
Fiscal responsibility
A balanced budget
But that didn’t make me a conservative
It didn’t lessen my belief in the value of:
Social Security.
Civil rights.
Women’s rights.
Gay rights.
Medicare.
Medicaid.
Marriage rights for all.
Birth rights.
The right to an education.
The right to choose.
The right to control your own body and health care.
The right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Hard fought rights that are being chipped away.
I have been a democrat ever since Kenney.
A liberal ever since I could vote.
I accepted a person’s right to have a different point of
view.
Not a different world.
It seems a quarter of Americans want a world.
